MARGARET WILLIAMS, LMSW, LCSW-C
Providing telehealth to residents of Maryland & Michigan
THERAPY
Hello, and thank you for visiting my therapy page! Here you will find information about my specialties, therapy style, and some logistics. I am a Certified Clinical Social Worker in the state of Maryland (LCSW-C) and a Licensed Master's Social Worker in the state of Michigan (LMSW). I ama Certified EMDR Therapist and an EMDRIA Approved Consultant. I practice virtually with no physical office, so all treatment is completed on a HIPAA compliant telehealth platform.

I received my Master’s in Social Work from Smith College in Northampton, MA and my bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. I use knowledge I’ve gained in my almost 20 years as a therapist to inform my practice. I balance spontaneity and intuition with sound theory and clinical practice. Although I love getting to know my clients, my goal is to empower you with skills and resources to get OUT of therapy. I love to find creative interventions to problems—ones that are tailored specifically to you.
Adults with Trauma history (including complex trauma and chronic PTSD), Young adults, Anxiety, Dissociation, Neurodivergence, LGBTQ+, Gender identity, Child Welfare and foster care, Relationship Issues, Codependency, and Life Transitions
-
My primary treatment modality is EMDR. I also utilize IFS, DBT, CBT and motivational interviewing techniques, all from a psychodynamic lens.
-
I treat therapy like an art, and therefore treatment looks a little different with every client I see.
-
My approach is kind while also challenging you to examine thoughts/feelings/behaviors that keep you stuck.
-
My personality is part old soul and part humorist, so we can go deep and also laugh (when appropriate of course).
-
Exploring the WHY. We'll look underneath those feelings of overwhelm, anxiety, depression, irritation, and get at the root of what's causing them. We’ll identify and challenge negative false beliefs you hold about yourself as you move toward viewing yourself and your capacities in a positive way.
- Engaging the body with interventions like EMDR. As Bessel van der Kolk teaches, “the body keeps the score.” When we experience trauma, it affects the entire system (brain and body). EMDR kickstarts the brain’s natural healing process by stimulating both sides of the brain through things like eye movements, tapping, or audio tones. The brain is then able to fully process distressing memories, emotions, and experiences rather than getting stuck in them. It literally rewires our brains!
-
Teaching coping strategies in session to ensure you leave in a centered state of mind. You will practice these in between sessions so that you are equipped to deal with life's stressors and you can take charge of your mental health.
We can do that too. Sometimes we want to address a very specific issue without diving deeply into root causes or extensive exploration. Or we don’t have the time/money/resources/desire to be in therapy long-term. We can keep it brief if that's your preference and establish expectations about that ahead of time. Our time will be focused, goal-oriented, and driven by YOU.
Insurance panels are pending. For now, I can accept self-pay clients only.
